Suspect in Del Norte County shooting arrested

SMITH RIVER, Calif. (KIEM) – Del Norte County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Timothy Strom as the suspect of a Smith River shooting, after his vehicle was located in Brookings, Oregon.

The incident occurred on the early morning of June 30 when Strom joined a subject known to the victim, at the victim’s residence.

Strom, unidentified at the time, reportedly threatened subjects at the residence and shot a firearm numerous times inside and outside of the residence.

Prior to law enforcement’s arrival, Strom fled northbound, initiating a be-on-the-lookout broadcast.

A Brookings Police Officer located Strom’s vehicle, unattended, and observed a firearm in the rear passenger area.

Per Del Norte County Sheriff’s Office request, the vehicle was towed and Strom was identified and interviewed.

Upon the search of the vehicle, a firearm described by the victim was located as well as a high capacity magazine.

The items were seized, a warrant was written and Strom was taken into custody without incident.

Strom is currently housed at the Curry County Jail awaiting extradition to the Del Norte County Jail.
