Just over 3,000 Humboldt County residents lose power in latest PSPS event

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) — Residents in some areas of Humboldt County are without power after a Public Safety Power Shutoff was initiated by PG&E Monday night.

Power is being shutoff to 172,000 customers in 22 different counties across the state. Just over 3,000 of those customers are in high fire-threat areas of eastern Humboldt County.

PG&E says they’re using the Humboldt Bay Generating Station, and what’s known as islanding, to keep the power on for thousands of customers who would have otherwise been impacted.

For those without power, PG&E estimates power to be restored no later than 9 pm Wednesday evening.

Two community resource centers have been set up in the county. One is at the Hydesville Community Church and the other is the Yurok Tribe Community Care Center in Weitchpec. Both are open from 8 am to 10 pm.
