Humboldt Bay Fire offers tips on how to stay healthy amid smoky conditions

EUREKA, Calif. (KIEM) — With smoky conditions coming from the Red Salmon Complex near Willow Creek and the Oak Fire to our south, Humboldt Bay Fire has some tips on how to protect your health during a smoke event. Smoke contains harmful chemicals that can affect your health and can lead to difficulty breathing and other symptoms.

Here’s what you can do: minimize or stop outdoor activities, especially exercise, stay indoors with windows and doors closed as much as possible, don’t run any fans that will bring smoky outdoor air inside, run your air conditioner, but only if it doesn’t bring smoke inside, and lastly, don’t smoke, fry food or do other things that will create indoor air pollution. Also, use the recirculate or recycle setting on your air conditioner if possible.
