August Complex Fire West Zone grows to more than 86,000 acres

MENDOCINO COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) — The August Complex Fire West Zone has grown to more than 86,000 acres and remains 7% contained.

So far, Cal Fire says 45 structures have been destroyed with close to 14,000 more being threatened.

“South of Kettenpom that area, mop up operations are going extremely well. Moving down into the Covelo and east of Covelo area, our crews are still building direct and indirect line and taking advantage of the opportunities that come up and being able to go direct and secure those areas,” Deputy Operations Chris Trindade says.

The August Complex Fire as a whole is now just over 824,000 acres.
