Red Salmon Complex close to 100,000 acres, evacuation order for Forks of Salmon reduced

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) — The Red Salmon Complex Fire has grown to just shy of 100,000 acres and is still only 17% contained.

The evacuation order for the Forks of Salmon area has been reduced to an evacuation warning. Residents may return to their homes. Fire crews are still in Denny and the area around Forks of Salmon.

“The defensive firing that’s happening from High Point to Drop Point 48 is all holding and looking good. Today we will be securing that. On Hoteling Ridge, the same defensive firing down the dozer line is all holding and looking good, and backing into Know-nothing Creek,” Operations Section Chief trainee Gordon Meyer says.

A reminder for residents, all National Forests are closed until September 21st.
