Increased Containment of Devil and Slater Fires

DEL NORTE and SISKIYOU COUNTIES , Ca. (KIEM) – Crews battling the Slater and Devil Fires increase containment levels thanks to rain over the weekend.

The Slater Fire is now at 78% containment with more than 156,000 acres burned.

Two crews have been assigned to remove hazardous trees along Happy Camp Highway.

Efforts are underway to ensure that drainage sites along the roads will be able to handle the fall and winter rain.

The Devil Fire is nearing 9,000 acres with 58% containment.  It is now in patrol status and crews are utilizing aviation as well as ground resources to monitor the fire.
