FORTUNA, Calif. (KIEM) – The No-Shave November campaign was created to grow awareness by embracing hair, which many cancer patients lose, and letting it grow out.

The Fortuna Police Department came up with a way for everyone to get involved – all funds raised will stay in the community for a child battling cancer.

“The men can obviously grow a beard, I cannot, so for me to be able to participate, we have allowed women in our department to put blue in their hair,” said School Resource Officer Lindsey Frank.

“And were asking for the community to try to give up some money to try to give to this family to help them out,” said Officer Thomas McCleod.

The campaign encourages people to donate the money usually spent on shaving and grooming to educate about cancer prevention, to save lives, and to help those fighting the battle.

Donations will be collected throughout the month November by FPD, for a local family.

For now, donations can be made in person at the Fortuna Police Department located at 621 11th Street in Fortuna.

Lieutenant Matt Eberhardt says, the campaign is for a good cause.

“It’s all about raising funds bringing awareness, honoring those fighting cancer,” said Eberhardt.

An online donation option will be available later this week on the Fortuna Police Department’s Facebook page.
