EUREKA, Calif. (KIEM)-Community members lined up in their vehicles for their share of food donated to a local non-profit by a neighboring food bank.

Lieutenant Loretta Dulay with the Salvation Army of Eureka says, the event brought a steady stream of vehicles.

“Started a little bit early today because there were cars here already, so, we haven’t seen any huge lines but we haven’t seen it stop,” said Dulay.

The Midwest Food Bank donated a large shipment of about 500 boxes of food and supplies to the Salvation of Army of Eureka.

Each box contains a variety of items, including canned goods, pasta, and paper goods.

Boxes were given-away on a first come, first serve basis – and only one box was allotted, per vehicle.

The non-profit had asked for participants to bring their I.D., however, they did not, and will not turn away those in need of food.

“People are very grateful for the food that they are receiving were also letting them know that we are a food pantry that is open Monday through Friday,” she said. “So, if they need any other time of the month, it’s not just this one time distribution, they can come get a food bag from us twice a month.”

Dulay says, boxes remain – anyone in need of food can pick one up at the Salvation Army of Eureka during normal business hours at 2123 Tydd St, Eureka or call for more information at (707) 442-6475.
