Choose Humboldt campaign encourages residents to shop local this holiday season

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) — Humboldt County’s Chambers of Commerce, Business Improvement Districts, and Main Street programs have joined forces for the Choose Humboldt campaign that’s encouraging the community to shop local this holiday season.

The county-wide effort was the brain child of Humboldt Made and hopes to promote the importance of supporting small businesses. For businesses that want to participate, they can submit photos or a recorded video message including information about their business, how long they’ve been in the community, and why it’s so important to shop local instead of at bigger box stores.

According to Greater Eureka Chamber of Commerce CEO, Donna Wright, many local businesses have also taken advantage of their websites and social media platforms to promote sales.

“To be able to have our community get behind our local businesses now more than ever to support them will mean the difference between our businesses staying open, surviving, and hopefully thriving,” Wright says.
