K’ima:w Medical Center staff member tests positive for Covid-19

HOOPA, Calif. (KIEM) — The K’ima:w Medical Center on the Hoopa Valley Reservation confirms one of their staff members has tested positive for Covid-19. The staff member’s symptoms began late Friday and the person is isolating at home.

Humboldt County Public Health is working with key-mow to conduct contact tracing. The K’ima:w Medical Center clinic will be closed to in-person visits until further notice. Telehealth services are still available. The pharmacy and other medical center departments will remain open.

“There’s no current concern that any patients that were coming in and seeing providers would have possibly been exposed, so that’s not a current worry at this time,” according to Chief Operations Officer at K’ima:w Medical Center, Dr. Stephen Stake.

The Hoopa Valley Tribe currently has 4 active Covid-19 cases on the reservation. They’ve had 68 total cases to date and 62 recoveries.
