Dr. Ian Hoffman provides update on Covid-19 vaccination plan to the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) — Humboldt County Health Officer Dr. Ian Hoffman provided an update on local Covid-19 conditions to the Board of Supervisors Tuesday morning, specifically about vaccine distribution.

Phase 1A is still underway with 320 health care workers scheduled to get vaccinated Tuesday and Wednesday. On Monday, over 500 emergency services personnel were sent an invitation to set up an appointment.

According to Dr. Hoffman, the County continues to only get 1 to 2 thousand first doses a week, and enough 2nd doses to cover that supply, despite promises of receiving more vaccines. The goal remains to not let any doses sit unused for more than 7 days.

According to the Director of Emergency Operations Ryan Derby, because many vaccination clinics are scheduled before the County gets the following week’s allotment the lack of supply is one of the biggest challenges.

“Like I said earlier, we’re ready. We have the people, we have the places, and we just need the supplies. If we can raise that voice up and get more into the County then we can get this done faster,” Derby says.
