New survey wants to know how North Coast residents get around, what influences transportation decisions

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) — A new survey is gathering information on how North Coast residents get around, and how they feel about the transportation options available to them.

The 10 minute online survey from the Coalition for Responsible Transportation Priorities asks residents how much they drive, walk, bike, or take the bus. It also asks how they decide what mode of transportation to use, and how safe and convenient they feel each option is.

A study like this has been done at the national and state levels, but not locally. The data collected will help future transportation projects.

“One thing that we expect we’ll find is that more people might ride a bike if they felt safe riding a bike on the streets near their homes. If that’s the case, then we’ll know we have to continue to focus our efforts on increasing safe and comfortable bike infrastructure, that kind of thing,” according to Executive Director Colin Fiske.
