Robbery Suspect Arrested after Violent Assault on EPD officer

EUREKA, CA (KIEM) – A man was arrested after a report of a robbery and violently assaulting an officer.

Eureka Police officers responded to a report of a robbery at a gas station at the 17-hundred block of 4th street.

According to the Eureka Police Department, 21-year-old Jack Bullwinkle entered the store simulating a firearm under his shirt and demanded money.

Bullwinkle and 39-year-old Bradley Mallet assaulted the employee.

The officer attempted to physically detain Bullwinkle and in doing so, Bullwinkle resisted and the officer fell to the ground.

According to witnesses, Bullwinkle was seen standing over and punching the officer.

The officer was transported to a local hospital for treatment of a moderate head injury. However, the officer has been released from the hospital and is now recovering at home.

Bullwinkle was booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility.
