EUREKA, Calif. (KIEM) – A very productive offseason continues for College of the Redwoods as the men’s soccer team acquires six local commitments.
Heading into his third season, Head Coach Kyle Van Dyke added his first assistant coach. Chico Cortes will join his staff after playing at Humboldt State.
Now Oscar Avendaño, Junior Cruz, Emmanuel Meraz, and Angel Ornelas will join the Corsairs from Fortuna. Jesse Bravo and Josh Manson from Eureka will join the roster as well.
Van Dyke said the new additions will complement the current team, especially the defense.
“Getting those guys to sign on and just kind of getting an idea of what the team is going to look like going forward just really gives us a lot of confidence and reignites that fire again,” Van Dyke said. “Things are getting a little back to normal, we’re going to be ready to play again.”
Van Dyke said the COVID-19 pandemic almost forced the team to take a step back, but now these commitments provide a confidence boost after such an uncertain year.
