People of New Directions are making a difference

ARCATA, Calif. (KIEM)- People of New Directions social enterprise has been in the business for nearly ten years. They focus on picking up trash and making the community cleaner.

“Our process is we go into the camps, and we work with the homeless knowing that they have no place to go, and they are in survival mode. Going into the camps and saying housekeeping is what my guys like to do because they are all from the homeless populations. Everyone that works with New Directions used to live in a tent and is transitioned from the tent into employment into housing,” John Shelter, Founder at People of New Directions. 

People of New Directions acknowledges the large homeless population. This is why they focus on primarily offering jobs to the homeless to lead them off the streets and find them a home.

“I didn’t think I would be able to find a job and be able to move where I wanted to be, and it worked out, and it’s great. If it weren’t for this opportunity ill still probably be stranded,” Brie Green, Employee at People of New Directions.
