Cal Poly Humboldt has officially been announced as the new campus name

ARCATA, Calif.(KIEM)- The board of trustees all voted to confirm the new campus name of Cal Poly Humboldt. As soon as it was confirmed, the campus immediately updated its website.

But with this new name comes new responsibility. The new polytechnic school will specifically address climate change and other critical issues of our time. At the same time, keeping in mind the tribal nations and indigenous wisdom.

“We are a different type of polytechnic defining ourselves by who we include, not who we exclude we have the momentum we have support. We are absolutely committed to delivering innovated way,” said Dr. Jenn Capps, Vice President of Cal Poly Humboldt.

The school would like to have more students enroll, so they expect that being a polytechnic school will allow for new programs and double their enrollment in a targeted seven years.

“Cal Poly Humboldt will be a polytechnic for the 21st century, preparing students to address the urgent issues our societies face. The energy the new academic program, the incredible polytechnic foundation already in place, and the positive change associated with our new name and designation begins today for our campus community,” said Tom Jackson, President for Cal Poly Humboldt.

Cal Poly Humboldt is the only one of three Polytechnic Universities in the state, which will allow them to receive funding approved by Governor Gavin Newsom back in august to be towards polytechnic academic programs.

“We have been working diligently on standing up new bachelor degree programs and one new master’s degree program and free certificates. By the fall of 2023, we are on target to do that. So there is tons of work happening there,” said Dr. Jenn Capps.
