California Cancer Crusher and Recology collaborate to provide pink trash cans

The collaboration between the California Cancer Crusher and Recology is to help support local people battling cancer.  

“The California Cancer Crushers have partnered with Recology and the Crushing Cancer One Can at a Time campaign,” said Karen Clower, the Board Chair of California Cancer Crusher. “Fortuna residents will be able to make a $100 donation to the California Cancer Crusher and have their gray trash can replaced with the pink can. This can will represent their support to those in our community battling cancer.”

This opportunity to swap your gray garbage can with a pink one is only available in Fortuna. However, organizers said that they are working closely with Recology to provide this to the entire county. All funds raised will go towards the California Cancer Crusher local assistance program and scholarship fund. 

“What we’ve discovered through the California Cancer Crusher is that most people that are diagnosed with cancer leave the area for treatment,” Clower said. “If they don’t leave the area for treatment, there’s still a financial burden that cancer places on families and this is a way that we can assist with that.”

People who order can either receive a 10 or 30-gallon pink garbage can. Residents of Fortuna can sign up for their pink trash can now by going to this website: thecancercrusher.org.
