BREAKING NEWS: In Fortuna, police arrested someone for making threats at the Fortuna Middle School. On Wednesday, someone left a bomb threat on a school wall saying they would “make history”  on October 19.

Fortuna police responded to investigate the threat and put a safety plan in place. Fortuna Middle School did alert parents. Officers conducted searches of the school.

Earlier today when school was beginning, arriving students were searched before entering the school grounds. Eventually, surveillance video led officers to the student. Officers took the student into custody after they confessed to the school administrators. That student is now charged with criminal threats.

Officers searched the student’s residence and found no additional evidence. The threat from the wall was also sent out via social media, text and even airdrop. Police say the student in custody did not have the technology needed to spread such a threat.

Investigators say that could have come from a copycat–someone who wanted to spread fear among the community. Fortuna police continue to investigate.
