Butler Valley raises donations through annual Holiday Plant & Crafts sale

The week-long annual Holiday and Craft sale is held by Butler Valley, a non-profit organization in Eureka.

Butler Valley’s Carole Sund Center has been running a day program for the last ten years focused on helping those with intellectual disabilities.

The proceeds from the sale will go to the center’s Farming for Our Future program. Those with disabilities come here to learn the ins and outs of farming including tending gardens, gathering crops, and feeding and raising goats.

“Our participants would come and we help them with different vocational jobs and help them find ways to make money and help them provide for the community at the same time,” farm supervisor Sarah Belak said.

Participants also sew and create handmade crafts for the sale.

“We are providing a bunch of succulents that we worked on, some local native plants. That we’ve got. And a bunch of our homemade sewn gifts that all these guys helped us make, so we’ve got catnip pillows, and lavender pillows, a bunch of shopping bags and all sorts of fun stuff.”

One participant is even selling their own line of woodwork.

“Michelle gave me permission to put my woodworking stuff over here, out here, to have people look around and have people see my stuff that I make. Charcuterie boards, bat roost boxes, coasters, bird feeders and tables and side tables.”

The center also sells their wares at the Pierson’s hardware store nearby as part of their “Made in Humboldt” section.

Those who want to stop by and shop the sale can do so from now until Friday between 10 a.m. And 2 p.m. Donations can also made to Butler Valley anytime and are greatly appreciated.
