Construction Updates on “I” Street in Eureka

I St. between 6th and Harris streets has been undergoing a facelift this week, as construction crews continue to finish a pavement project that began Monday.

“It’s a little hard to get to our office today due to the road construction,” Tom Hiller, Broker Owner of Benchmark Realty said. “Beyond that, it’s good to see some progress in town and some improvements to the infrastructure which is much needed.”

This is part of the city of Eureka’s Pavement Rehabilitation Project, a project that will focus on street pavements and pedestrian improvements, such as new curb ramps and lane markings on various streets within the city.

“We went out for a tax measure three years ago, so we’ve made a concerted effort of putting aside approximately $3 million every year since that ballot measure passed to honor the community members and their wishes,” Miles Slattery, City of Eureka. “So we plan on continuing to do that […] I ask that the community be patient while we’re doing this. There are a lot of inconveniences that come with road work, but at the same time they need the attention that we’re giving it to them and so we are doing our best to get it done as expeditiously as possible.”

Construction is expected to continue until tomorrow, Friday, Dec. 15th.
