Smoke winds from Red Salmon fire & rain credited for clearing smoke in some areas

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM)-The Red Salmon Complex Fire is more than 141,000 thousand acres in size, and remains 36-percent contained.

Rain is not in the forecast this week, temperatures expected to warm-up, according to the U.S. Forest Service.

Smoke winds and rain are credited for clearing out smoke stuck for nearly two weeks, in low lying areas.

The U.S. Forest service says, those in an area with clean air may want to open windows and doors to clear indoor air.

They add, dusting and vacuuming will also help rid homes of settled smoke particles.

Operations Chief Richard Parrish says, the rain helped decreased fire activity but hindered crews.   

“They got so much rain out there yesterday (Saturday) that the crews were unable to get out on the line, but as things dry out, we’ll have folks back there working,” he said.

Areas and roads within and near the fire perimeter on the Klamath, Six Rivers, and Trinity national forests are closed.
