Truck of fatigued motorist plows into building, no injuries reported

CRESCENT CITY, Calif. (KIEM) -A man walked away uninjured, after the pick-up truck he was driving plowed into a building located at the intersection of Elk Valley Road and U.S. Route 101 in Crescent City, over the weekend.

Just after one o’clock Saturday morning the Crescent City Police Department arrived to a vehicle that appeared to have crashed into a business located on the 400-block of South U.S. Route 101.

An investigation by determined the driver was not under the influence but rather sleepy.

According to Police Chief Richard Griffin, the driver is taking night classes and was headed back home to Gold Beach when he fell asleep, veered off the highway and crashed into the building.

The building sustained major damage, according to Griffin, amazingly no injuries were reported.

“He actually went against medical advice and didn’t get transported to the hospital, he said he was fine,” according to Griffin.  “He was able to walk away from it. I mean if you feel like you are getting tired at all, pull-over, take a rest.

“Arriving alive to your destination is always the best thing, it could be dangerous, I mean it’s almost like driving under the influence sometimes if you’re tired, it can have the same effects.”

Griffin says the department in trying to the reach the owner of the building to determine estimated damages, and to complete the investigation, if you are the building owner the Crescent City Police Department at (707) 464-2133.
