ELECTION PROCESS FOR VOTERS IN HUMBOLDT COUNTY

EUREKA, Calif.(KIEM)- California voters are headed to the polls to decide whether Governor Gavin Newsom will be recalled. The California Gubernatorial Recall Election is on September 14th, and the Humboldt County Office of Elections has been preparing for the 86 thousand registered voters in Humboldt County.

“The last day to register to vote and get a ballot in the mail was August the 30th. But people can still register and obtain a ballot right now they can come to the Humboldt County Office of Elections Office and get themselves registered and get a ballot to vote,” Kelly Sanders, Clerk-Recorder, Registrar of voters for Humboldt County.

The Humboldt County Office of Election wants to encourage people to mail in their ballots, drop them in, or come in early to vote. They want to avoid crowds on the day of the election.

They are also letting registered voters access ballots online. Because of the recent wildfires in the area, if Hoopa and Willow Creek voting sites aren’t accessible, they will be moved to a new location in Blue Lake.

“For this election, there is what is called the remote accessible vote by mail ballot, and there is information on our website on how a person can download their actual ballot materials print them out they can fill it out and can mail that back to us or drop it on a drop location,” Kelly Sanders, Clerk-Recorder, Registrar of voters for Humboldt County.

Elections officials say they will do everything they can to accommodate voters, including curbside voting, where they will take voting materials to the car to make it easier for voters.
