$11.6 million in Measure Z tax money tentatively distributed

EUREKA, CA. – After months of debate, how will Humboldt County’s Measure Z tax money be divvied up this fiscal year?

The sales tax spending plan totals up to $11.6 million for the 2018-2019 fiscal period.

$7.2 million of that was already set aside for staffing deputies, District Attorney prosecutors, and social workers.

After deliberation from the Measure Z Tax Advisory Committee, how to spend the $4.4 million leftover has been proposed.

The Committee and Humboldt Supervisors decided to allocate $1.6 million to the Humboldt County Fire Chief’s Association.

Another half million will go towards the City of Eureka to fund police officers, housing and detox services.

Arcata will receive $350,000 for a school resource officer.

An additional eight $850,000 will go towards road work and repair.

These proposals will be included in the county budget, and available for public comment at the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors meeting on June 5.
