The Gene Lucas Center: Fortuna’s New Community Center

The Mclean Foundation has just signed with a building contractor to start phase one construction of what will be Fortuna’s new “Gene Lucas Community Center.”

The first phase of this project will be the main building on the thirty seven acre site, which will have programing for youth, families, and seniors.

The president of the Mclean Foundation says that the biggest hurdle they’ve faced during this process was trying to find a suitable site.

He says that the Mclean Foundation has wanted to build a community center for about 15 years. The $13 million project will open phase one to the public around the first of next year. They plan on adding another two buildings within the next two years, those are currently being designed.
