Initially, they responded to the incident after the sailboat struck rocks and partially sunk. That was at about 9:00 p.m. Tuesday. The Del Norte County Sheriff’s Marine evacuated crew members, and no one was injured.

Because the sailboat was partially submerged, the Coast Guard couldn’t tow it back to the harbor right away.

Now, it’s not a hazard to navigation for traffic around the entrance of the channel, but mariners are encouraged to monitor marine band VHF radio channels 16 and 22A for updates on the vessel’s removal.
