Man shoots at Cal Fire crew battling Mendocino Lake Complex Fire

MENDOCINO COUNTY – Flames weren’t the only issue one Cal Fire crew was facing in Mendocino, as a male resident began shooting at them.

Suspect, 73-year-old John Maxwell Heron of Redwood Valley, was booked into the Mendocino County Jail after being accused of firing multiple shots and shouting at the crew.

They were suppressing fire in Redwood Valley due to the Mendocino Lake Complex Fire.

The crew’s engine was parked on Heron’s property, but Heron was arrested for discharge of a firearm in a grossly negligent manner and resisting a peace officer.
