EPD reorganization means return of Community Service Officers

EUREKA – The Eureka Police Department will reorganize following council approval.
Chief Watson sought the reorganization so that roles and responsibilities are more accurately reflected in title and pay.
Some unfilled positions were eliminated and others were reclassified.
In addition, the department will use money from one police officer vacancy to fund two community service officers. They will handle duties that fell to officers when those positions were eliminated due to budget cuts.
City Manager Greg Sparks said the reorganization will save about $14,000.
