Holiday sales are up, says Eureka Main Street

EUREKA – The numbers are in and holiday sales in Eureka were up.
In an anonymous survey conducted by Eureka Main Street, businesses reported sales increased 5 to 8 percent from Thanksgiving through Christmas.
And for the 2017 calendar year 335 businesses located in Old Town and Downtown saw sales jump 10 percent.
Eureka Main Street said clear weather and cannabis legalization may have contributed.
Executive Director Charlotte McDonald said her organization heard a sense of optimism from both businesses and shoppers.
Now Eureka Main Street hopes to build on that momentum going forward.
“This is where people want to be. We attract children. We attract older people. So what it says is we need to continue to promote our district and let people know how awesome the businesses are down here that they are local. They are our neighbors and our friends and our family,” McDonald said.
