Calls for a Cure: Saint Jude Radiothon rallies locals to unite to fight childhood cancer

EUREKA, CA. – You may have noticed your local radio broadcasts are a little different – sharing stories of hope, and asking for you to become a “Partner in Hope” – to help in supporting children with cancer.

That’s because Thursday kicked off Bicoastal Media’s 15th annual Saint Jude Radiothon.

How it works – community groups volunteer to staff the phones for two work days – and locals call in to give their share.

The funds benefit Saint Jude’s Children Research Hospital – which develops protocols and treatments for kids battling life threatening diseases, and raises survival rates for the most common types of childhood cancer.

As Big Red host Rollin Trehearne explains it, hope for a cure comes from people like you.

“I’ve seen the eyes of parents who have lost their children. I know parents here locally who have had successful stories. The success doesn’t come without people keeping the doors open and the lights on at Saint Jude’s. That’s really where my passion comes from,” said Trehearne.

To become a Partner in Hope, call 1-800-942-8771 between the hours of 6am to 7pm Friday.

You can also simply text “cure” to 785-833.

You’ll be asked to donate $20 dollars a month, to make a difference in the lives of children.
