Search for Interim Arcata Police Chief continues

ARCATA, CA. – The City of Arcata may not have a dedicated Interim Police Chief for up to another month.

It’s been just over two weeks since Tom Chapman resigned from the position as Arcata Police Chief.

His departure was just days before the one year anniversary of a high profile unsolved murder – that of HSU student, David Josiah Lawson.

In the meantime, Lieutenant Bart Silvers is serving as Acting Chief until an Interim Chief is named.

They say they have a top candidate who is from California, but because he was not formerly with Arcata Police, a full background check could take up to four weeks to complete.

The department says they hope to have the Interim Chief installed by June.
