Highway 20 remains closed as Pawnee Fire rages on

Lake County, Ca., (KIEM)- Highway 20 has remained closed for much of the day, Sunday, at the junction of State Route 53 in Lake County. The highway is closed all the way to State Route 16 in Colusa County. That’s according to Cal Trans. The Pawnee Fire is the source of the closure.

The Double Eagle community is under mandatory evacuation. Anyone living between Highway 20 and Morgan Valley Road (or near the county line and Ridge Road) is facing an evacuation advisory.

Just as it looked like the Pawnee Fire was nearly under control, it picked back up growing to more than 14,100 acres overnight. Containment is still at 73% and fire managers hope to have it suppressed by July 5th. Though Humboldt County crews are no longer in Lake County, more than 2,000 fire fighters are risking their lives to fight the flames and hold the line in that area.
