EUREKA- Waterfront drive in Eureka was closed for several hours after crews struck a gas line.
It happened at around nine Friday morning when construction workers hit a plastic gas line with a mini excavator.
PG&E crews responded to the scene while Humboldt Bay Fire and Eureka Police closed off Waterfront Drive from A to C Street.
The flow of gas was stopped an hour later and service to customers was not interrupted. It’s not known if the underground lines were properly marked.
This is a good reminder for residents and work crews to call 811 before doing any kind of construction projects that require digging.
