Arcata, Ca., (KIEM)- It’s a warm afternoon in Arcata. Humboldt Crabs fans are buzzing as they haul children and lawn chairs to the ballpark. Out front of City Haul, situated just in front of the Police Department’s offices the click you’re hearing isn’t coming from the contact a bat makes with a ball.

It’s the click of a camera. A camera capturing the majesty (because despite the drool he’s pretty majestic), of K9 Officer Baron. He’s about the grace Humboldt Companion Animal Foundation’s 2019 Calendar, part of this year’s the “Heroes and Hounds” theme.

In years past, Companion Animal Foundation has featured “Cats and Casanovas,” and “Pinups and Pooches,” capturing the classic gloss and glam of classic calendar layouts. This year, they want to celebrate the people who protect and serve. Firefighters, Law Enforcement Officer and members of the Coast Guard are all set to make an appearance in the wall worthy date books.

The project raises money for a mobile veterinary clinic. The production of the calendar itself (from the services of a photographer to print fees), is paid for by donations.

So, as he poses regally beside his best friend and partner, Baron is making a big difference. Over the clamor of volunteers drawing his attentive gaze from passerby to the camera lens, he is helping to rack in the profits that will fuel this non-profit’s mission moving forward. Busting bad guys in the field, and modeling on the lawn, Baron is an all purpose star. The only thing left to wonder? Which month will he be….
