(UPDATE) Highway 299 closed in both directions due to over 3,000 acre Carr Fire, 15% contained

Tuesday 12:00PM UPDATE from Cal Trans District 2: “Per Cal Fire/Shasta County Fire, #CarrFire is now at 3,126 acres with 15% containment. SR 299W is anticipated to remain closed through today, July 24th.

SHASTA COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) – Starting at about 1PM on Monday, the new so-called “Carr Fire” in Shasta County has already grown to upwards of 2,500 acres.

As of Monday afternoon, Highway 299 is closed in both directions, as the Carr Fire is burning along the highway and Carr Powerhouse Road, near Whiskeytown Lake.

There are also mandatory evacuation orders in place for the French Gulch area.

Evacuees are asked to go to Weaverville Elementary School. (31020 CA-3, Weaverville)

An additional evacuation center has opened at Shasta High School.
