State Route 96 is now open to motorists

MILL CREEK – State Route 96 in Eastern Humboldt is now open to motorists as resources on the Mill Creek Fire continue to improve containment.

The fire has scorched over 3600 and is 82 percent contained. Smoke will still be visible until there is a significant weather event. The focus is to put out hot spots.

A Burned Area Emergency Response Team will begin to assess the Mill Creek 1 Fire damage and work with the Hoopa Tribe to begin planning for future rehabilitation actions such as seeding, erosion control, and planting.

When traveling on Highway 96 you still need to be cautious when going through the fire area. First-Responders are still working along the road for emerging hazards.
