Kerlin Fire spreads 100 acres in Shasta-Trinity National Forest

TRINITY COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) – A new wildfire is burning near Hyampom, east of the Humboldt County line, and is being called the Kerlin Fire.

200 fire personnel are dedicated to the Kerlin Fire, as of Wendesday. The fire has burned about 100 acres west of Hyampom.

The Kerlin Fire started at about 3:00PM on Tuesday, and is 0% contained, but fire retardant has been placed around 90% of the fire perimeter. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

There are structures in the area, but the U.S. Forest Service has not put evacuations in place.

However, the forest service says residents should “remain vigilant” and prepare for evacuation should conditions change.
