Archaeology and Cultural Awareness Day at the Clarke

Eureka, Ca., (KIEM) Saturday was Archaeology and Cultural Awareness Day at the Clarke. A day for locals to stop by Clarke Historical Museum in Eureka to learn about Native American Culture and archaeology.

The event takes visitors on an interactive cultural journey titled “A Passport to our Past, Present, and Future” which showcases the Yurok culture through 10 display stations.

Hosts presented a Native American artifact and the history behind it, while visitors listened and receive a passport stamp for each cultural destination they explored. Stations included traditional Yurok homes, traditional basketry, medicinal plants, traditional foods and more.

California State Parks, Redwood National Park, Humboldt State University’s Anthropology Club, and local Native American Cultural practitioners partnered with the museum to make this event possible.
