Eureka celebrates A Día de los Muertos Festival

Eureka, Ca., (KIEM) A Día de los Muertos or a Day of the Dead Festival was held Sunday afternoon at the Pachanga Mexicana Restaurant on 5th Street in Eureka.

Although it’s called a day of the dead it’s not what you think at all. This day is coined a Mexican holiday celebrated throughout Mexico honoring friends and family members who have passed on.

On Sunday, the same holiday was celebrated but with a twist. English Express organized the first Annual A Día de los Muertos Festival to celebrate the theme of family and community and says the festival will also raise funds for the grant and donations funded school.

“We serve Humboldt County’s immigrants by providing English’s best practices, direct connection to community services and educational field trips,” shared Mary-Ann Hytken, Program Leader and Teacher for English Express. “We are helping Humboldt County’s newest residents to create the life they envision in Humboldt and support values they bring, of family and community.”

Children dressed-up, in wake of the Halloween holiday, and got a chance to meet characters from Disney’s Coco, decorate sugar skulls and enjoy a few prize giveaways.
