Camp Fire death toll rises to 71, over one thousand people reported missing, as of Friday night

As of Friday night, the #CampFire is the cause for 71 deaths. 1,011 people are also reported missing. However, according to the Butte County Sheriff, that number is expected to fluctuate.

BUTTE COUNTY, Ca. (KIEM) – As of Friday night, the death toll for the Camp Fire is now 71, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

Officials announced Friday evening that an additional 8 human remains were found during daily search efforts, bringing the death toll to 71. Out of those, 58 victims have been identified.

Also as of Friday night, the Camp Fire is now 146,000 acres in size, and is 50% contained.

Approximately 47,200 have been evacuated, with over a thousand people in shelters. Over 12,000 structures have been destroyed due to the Camp Fire, including 9,844 homes.

The Butte County Sheriff also updated the list of unaccounted for people to 1,011. A list of those reported missing is available, here.

“As of tonight, the list that we will be releasing, the current list of unaccounted for individuals stands at 1,011, which is an increase from yesterday’s 380. I want you to understand though that this is a dynamic list. It will fluctuate both up and down everyday,” said Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea.

The sheriff stressed that the unaccounted people list is mostly raw data, and it’s likely that some names are duplicated.

Officials announced that the Camp Fire has the largest deployment of search and rescue personnel ever amassed in the state of California.
