Reoccurring fire at Old Jacobs Campus drains resources for firefighters

Local firefighters responded to a fire at a vacant school in Eureka on Thursday — and Humboldt Bay Fire Chief Bill Reynolds says this seems to be a reoccurring issue at that building.

Black smoke was seen billowing from the Old Jacobs campus just before 5:30 Thanksgiving night. They were able to get the fire under control in a few minutes, but stayed on scene for a few hours. Chief Reynolds with Humboldt Bay Fire tells us there have been many human caused fires at the abandoned building, which poses a threat to firefighters, and strains their resources.

Chief Reynolds tells us the building is in the process of getting the asbestos removed, and there are plans to demolish it.
