Liquor Licenses revoked for two Arcata Bars

Arcata, Ca., (KIEM) Two local Arcata Bars will soon have their liquor licenses revoked for facilitating illegal drug activity. The decision came after several drug violations at both Toby and Jack’s and Sidelines Sports Bar, surfaced earlier this year.

During a month-long sting operation by the Humboldt County Drug Task Force. Administrative Law Judge, Alberto Roldan, issued a double ruling earlier this month that both bars will lose their licenses.

Arcata City Manager, Karen Diemer shared that she is trying to figure out what’s next for both establishments.

“So right now we’re in a little bit of a holding pattern where the licensee has the option to either appeal that decision or to not appeal that decision,” said Diemer. “And it’s a little unclear to us right now as to whether or not the bars will be able to continue to operate during that appeal period but we should have some clarity to that within the next few weeks.”

The involved suspects have been charged in separate cases, and owner of both bars, Salvatore Costanzo,  claims he was unaware of the drug activity taking place.
