“Towards Citizenship” aims to expand with communities help

EUREKA, CA. (KIEM)-A Eureka woman says she’s helped ten people with green cards earn their way to citizenship, but now she’s in need of some help herself.

For nearly three years, Elizabeth Niemeyer has offered a free program that helps foreign people navigate the often-times difficult and expensive process of becoming a u-s citizen. In her classroom, she says people practice English, learn American history, and gain a sense of independence. Niemeyer says, some of her students have immediate family living in Mexico, and that this program gives them hope. With the success of the program, she says she is in need of more volunteers.

The last class of this year is Friday at 6 in the Jefferson community center. However next years class will start in Spring. If you’re interested in volunteering or donating, email Elizabeth Niemeyer at:
