Eureka hosts its own National Homeless Memorial Day event

Two volunteers share why they believe our legal and health care systems should improve for the sake of the homeless.

EUREKA, Ca. (KIEM) – All over the nation. Homeless people advocates, are uniting for a common goal, to show compassion for those struggling to meet their basic needs.

Today from noon until ten, at Eureka’s Old town Gazebo, members of the community will gather in solidarity for the thousands of lives lost.at the event people were able to take warm clothes and blankets, enjoy a free meal and get information on the support systems available within our community. volunteers at the event told Redwood News. They hope to see the decriminalization of homelessness in our health care and legal systems.

A woman named Monique claims her mother Debra Jealous-of-him, from South Dakota, died homeless on December 3rd, 2018 in Eureka. She says her mother had a really kind soul, and would always give when she could. Monique say to see change, we must have less violence and ore compassion for the homeless.
