January is “human trafficking awareness month”. Some may be surprised that human trafficking is the third largest and one of the fastest growing criminal enterprises. According to The International Labor Organization, the industry makes over a 150 billion dollars.

There are over 40 million victims trafficked each year. Seventy-five percent of those victims are women and children. According to the Human Trafficking hotline, there are about 760 reported cases here in California. No one likes to read reports of human trafficking so it is important that more people are aware of how many cases there actually are. This way something can be done quicker to stop this happening for good both nationally and internationally.

A group of concerned citizens are now taking action. They came before the Board of Supervisors to bring light to this ongoing problem.
