HCSO addresses Humboldt Harbor crisis

EUREKA, CA (KIEM) – An update on the Humboldt Bay Harbor crisis. Earlier today, the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office was at the spot of “Buoy number 9”. They were there searching for the chain that held the buoy.

If they’re able to locate the chain. The Coast Guard’s dive team is hoping to move it out on Friday. Back in February, an emergency was declared for an area in the harbor near “Buoy 9”. Currently, the entrance into the bay is severely shallow. And one official has considered the situation life-threatening.

If all goes well. A dredge from the “US Army Corps of Engineers” is expected to be here next month. Their efforts are anticipated to relieve the problems.
