Humboldt County Board of Supervisors Passes Dungeness Crab Resolution

EUREKA, Ca. (KIEM) – It was a huge and emotional turnout at the Humboldt County Courthouse. Many North Coast crabbers and fishermen went before the board of supervisors expressing their frustrations about the early closure of crab season.

The Board of Supervisors passed a resolution that objects a federal ruling from closing commercial crabbing. The resolution will then be sent to the department of fish and game.

Last month, it was announced that the commercial season would end early. The news of the early closure shocked the fishing community. Many worried about their businesses. The closure would have put thousands of fishermen out of business.

The passing of today’s resolution is the first step in finding a solution.
