Arcata Fire District keeps house fire from spreading

Arcata, Ca., (KIEM) Quick action by the Arcata Fire District keeps a house fire from spreading through the rest of the home.

Fire crews responded to a residence on I Street in Arcata Just before 1 PM.

Fire officials say they initially couldn’t see any smoke when they arrived. But after a walk-through of the home, firefighters did eventually locate smoke spilling from the attic.

Battalion Chief, Sean Campbell said it appears the fire started around a bathroom vent fan before traveling upwards behind the wall of the home.

“The fire was kind of shared over the space between the first floor and second floor in that ceiling space. So it got up into the Attic and that’s where they saw the flames visible.”

It took fire crews less than 10 minutes to put out the flames and all the occupants of the home made it out safely.
