FORTUNA (KIEM)– Fighting fires isn’t just on the ground, but also in the air.

Cal Fire’s Aviation team is a crucial part to keeping ground troops safe and containing blazes. Aviation planes monitor tankers and copters, providing ariel supervision to ground troops.

Tankers drop retardant to help mitigate the flames and contain it to specified areas. Aviation pilots say that having planes in the air is able to give firefighters a different perspective and a hopeful upper hand when battling the flames.

Cal Fire wants us all to be aware of the part we play and how to keep Humboldt County safe from fires. A lawnmower could spark and can create a blaze, so paying attention to little things, especially in this warm weather, can make a big difference.
