Insect Lovers Get Up Close and Personal with Butterflies

EUREKA, CA (KIEM) – Butterfly lovers get an up close and personal look at the insects themselves.

Over at the Humboldt Botanical Garden, the butterflies fly around as they open up their beautiful wings. Attendees took close-up photos to capture the moment.

Staffers tell Redwood News that they have around 50 butterflies enjoying the garden. They even have caterpillars laying around on some leaves. While they are forming into Chrysalis, their minds and bodies melt.

“People think that a caterpillar just grows wings. But what happens is the caterpillar literally melts. Then, almost rebirths as the butterfly form. Scientist are able to tell us that butterflies actually remember being caterpillars,” said Jenna Franquelin a Butterfly Intern.

“They’re cool, and they fly, and they’re awesome. They have a lot of different colors,” Rowan Ferrario.

The Butterfly House at Humboldt Botanical Garden is open until the end of August. For more information, head over to HBGF.org.
